Milly Young Shatters Matterhorn Fastest Known Record in Historic Alpine Effort

Australian mountain athlete Milly Young just completely redefined speed and endurance on one of the world’s most iconic peaks. Young shattered the long-standing women’s Fastest Known Time (FKT) on the Matterhorn, completing the brutal roundtrip ascent and descent in 5 hours, 17 minutes, and 43 seconds. In doing so, she shaved nearly 35 minutes off the legendary record set by Emelie Forsberg back in 2013, proving once again that female mountain athletes are pushing the absolute ceiling of high-altitude performance.
Starting from Cervinia, Young took on the technical, highly exposed Lion’s Ridge, charging straight up to the 4,478-meter summit before navigating the punishing descent with relentless focus. Moving through high-alpine terrain at that pace requires far more than sheer lung capacity—it demands technical mastery, mental fortitude, and a willingness to operate right on the edge. LFG
